Abstract

The recent development of international criminal justice system is marked by ever more intensive cooperation between countries to combat serious violations of international humanitarian law. This tendency was especially pronounced in co-operation in cases of extradition for crimes of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. The latest development in this area is marked by the creation of effective mechanisms for preventing abuse in these proceedings in order to achieve the political goals of certain states. The paper analyzes the role of Interpol in mediating in extradition proceedings for serious violations of international humanitarian law. The analysis results indicate the development of reliable mechanisms of control and prohibition of abuse that should enable more efficient prosecution of persons responsible for these crimes.
