Abstract

Traffic is a social segment in which numerous rapid and significant changes occur to overcome distances and transport people and goods, and due to the scientific and technological progress, traffic of communication among people and regions is achieved. In many occasions, including the transportation, scientific and technological progress may also produce positive and negative effects, with adverse consequences for destruction of both man and nature. One of these products are motor vehicles. Production of the stronger and faster motor vehicles in Bosnia and Herzegovina is not supported by the construction and reconstruction of the actual supporting road infrastructure. Theoretically speaking, there are four basic factors of traffic safety on the roads: man factor, the vehicle factor, the time factor and environmental factor. Through the above mentioned factors different causes of traffic accidents can be analyzed. Knowing the causes of accidents, it is possible to design a set of the most effective preventive measures in order to eliminate unintended consequences and repair road traffic safety situation. This paper will present the state of traffic safety from the perspective of the Police Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Canton Sarajevo and their official statistics.
